Hi there

Cuba is also called the Crocodile-Island.

- Cuba has wild Crocodiles

- The Crocodile-shaped Cuban Island lies in the Carribbean bay like a Crocodile guarding the entrance

Yes countries actually do have nicknames...don't let anyone throw you off. Cuba is called La Isla Grande or Isla Grande, just as Beardo mentioned. No dispute there...and for proof for your project, here are a couple of informational links (and this is also for those of you who don't believe it either):

Hope your project goes well.

Cuba is sometimes referred to as La Isla Grande - the large island - or even just La Isla - The Island.

Alright, I apologize in advance for this not being very helpful. I know I heard it just the other day on NPR and have been scanning through the www.npr.org website on cuba stories. Now it's one of those things that sits on the edge of your brain. Arg! If I find it I'll update this.

Not sure what's up with the thumbs down, when the answer is in one of NPRs stories?

Glad you got your answer though!

Countries don't have nicknames, and you shouldn't use nicknames in a school report...What is the report on?
